Jazz mulÂti-instruÂmenÂtalÂist Edward LarÂry GorÂdon Jr. became LaraaÂji around the same time he startÂed releasÂing medÂiÂtaÂtive zither music in the late 70s and was then disÂcovÂered by BriÂan Eno, who proÂduced “The Dance No. 1” from AmbiÂent 3: Day of RadiÂance (1980). LaraaÂji has since had around 40 releasÂes of largeÂly improÂvised music, and this interÂview (below) explores his approach toward improÂviÂsaÂtion on numerÂous instruÂments, playÂing “funcÂtionÂal” music intendÂed to aid medÂiÂtaÂtion and reflecÂtion, and the evoÂluÂtion of LaraaÂji’s unique musiÂcal vision.
