Back in 2009, the musiÂcian who goes by the name “Cheesy NirÂvosa” began experÂiÂmentÂing with ambiÂent music, before evenÂtuÂalÂly launchÂing a YouTube chanÂnel where he “comÂposÂes longÂform space and sciÂfi ambiÂence.” Or what he othÂerÂwise calls “ambiÂent geek sleep aids.” Click on the video above, and you can get lulled to sleep lisÂtenÂing to the ambiÂent dronÂing sound–get ready Blade RunÂner fans!– heard in Rich Deckard’s apartÂment. It runs a good conÂtinÂuÂous 12 hours.
You’re more a Star Trek fan? Ok, try nodÂding off to the idling engine noise of a ship feaÂtured in Star Trek: The Next GenÂerÂaÂtion. Mr. NirÂvosa cleaned up a samÂple from the show and then looped it for 24 hours. That makes for one long sleep.
Or how about 12 hours of ambiÂent engine noise genÂerÂatÂed by the USCSS NosÂtroÂmo in Alien?
FinalÂly, and perÂhaps my favorite, Cheesy creÂatÂed a 12 hour clip of the ambiÂent sounds made by the Tardis, the time machine made famous by the British sci-fi TV show, DocÂtor Who. But watch out. You might wake up livÂing in a difÂferÂent time and place.
For lots more ambiÂent sci-fi sounds (Star Wars, The Matrix, BatÂtlestar GalacÂtiÂca, etc. ) check out this super long playlist here.
