A 1932 Amer­i­can pre-Code romance dra­ma film direct­ed by Frank Borzage, A Farewell to Arms stars Helen Hayes, Gary Coop­er, and Adolphe Men­jou. And it’s based on the Ernest Hem­ing­way nov­el by the same name. The film won Acad­e­my Awards for Best Cin­e­matog­ra­phy and Best Sound, and was also nom­i­nat­ed for Best Pic­ture and Best Art Direc­tion. It entered the pub­lic domain (in the USA) in 1960.
